Gift Ideas Under $5

Peachy Keen Blog: Christmas Gift Ideas Under $5
  • Snow Globes // Hot glue a small wire brush Christmas tree on the lid of a mason jar, add water and some glitter to the jar, and screw the lid on after the hot glue has dried. (Note: don't use small, fine glitter.)
  • Chocolate Dipped Pretzel Sticks // The possibilities are endless! Cover pretzel sticks in different kinds of chocolate and top with caramel, coconut, crushed candy canes, toffee, sprinkles, etc.
  • An "I Spy" Bottle // Collect those small miscellaneous things you find around your house, add them to a jar or bottle, add some rice, and print out a list of what's in the jar. Endless entertainment for the kiddos in your life.
  • Blemish Erasing Body Scrub // Mix together the following and put in a jar: 2 c. sugar, 1/4 c. coconut oil, 1 T. lemon juice, 1/2 T. honey, and 2 t. apple cider vinegar.
  • Crocheted Pot Holders // All you need is a skein of cotton yarn, a hook, and an online tutorial. They take an hour (or less if you're fast!) to make.
  • Homemade Cards // Pull out your reserves of cardstock and scrapbook paper, and make cards for multiple occasions! One of the best gifts I received a few years ago was 30 homemade birthday, baby shower, and "thank you" cards.
  • "Glitter" Candles // Spread Mod Podge around the outside of a candle and then roll it in Epsom salt. Inexpensive and pretty!
  • A Movie Night // Pick up a movie from your local store's clearance section, and tie a bag of popcorn and a treat on top!
  • Vanilla Sugar Body Scrub // Mix together the following and put in a jar: 1/2 c. sugar, 2 c. brown sugar, 1/2 c. sunflower oil, 1 T. honey, and 1 T. vanilla.
  • Photo Tile Coasters // Pick up a few small tiles from your local hardware store (should be $0.50 or less!), cut your selected pictures down to be the same size, and Mod Podge the photos onto the tiles. Once they're dry, tie them together with a ribbon.
  • Mini Pedicure // Put together a pair of fingernail clippers, an emery board, a fun nail polish color, and a small bottle of lotion.
  • A Night Off From Dishes // Perfect for the person in your life who does all of the dishes! Put together a stack of paper plates, paper bowls, paper cups, napkins, and plastic silverware. Easy as pie.
  • A Festive Pillow // Embroider a cute saying or picture and turn it into a pillow. You'll need to pick up some fabric and thread, and look up a YouTube video if you need some assistance. :)
  • Customized Mug // Using a mug from the dollar store and an oil-based sharpie, write your loved one a note they'll see every time they pick up their mug. Or draw them a picture, write a joke, or doodle all over the whole thing! Bake at 425 degrees for 30 minutes. (Note: it's important that you put the mugs in the oven before turning it on and letting them cool down in the oven after the 30 minutes. If you don't, it could crack from the temperature changes.)
  • Reader's Paradise // Check your local thrift store for some good reads in good condition and pair a book with a bag of your favorite hot chocolate. Sounds like the perfect afternoon to me!
  • Bath Bombs // Mix together: 8 oz. baking soda, 4 oz. citric acid, 4 oz. corn starch, and 4 oz. Epsom salts. In a separate bowl, mix together: 3/4 t. water, 2 t. essential oil, 2.5 t. almond oil or another light oil, and a few drops of food coloring. Pour wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and whisk together. Pack the mixture into a mold of your choice (Note: muffin tins work fabulously). Let dry for 1-2 days.
  • A Baking Kit // Wrap together a cake mix, can of frosting, and some cute cupcake liners. Dessert's on you!
  • The Gift of Warmth // Pick out a fluffy and warm yarn, and crochet or knit your loved one a scarf they can use throughout the colder months. Pair it with some matching $1 gloves, a pair of fun socks from the clearance section, and some hand warmers.
  • Personalized Popcorn // Pop 2 bags of light butter popcorn and set aside. In a sauce pan, mix together: 3/4 c. corn syrup, 3 T. butter, and 1 (11.5 oz) bag of white chocolate chips. Bring to a boil on medium heat, add 1/2 bag of marshmallows, and keep stirring until they melt. Remove saucepan from heat and pour the chocolate mixture over the popcorn. Stir together to coat all of the popcorn and add your loved one's favorite treat! (Example: M&M's, Reese's Pieces, candy corn, pretzels, crushed candy cane, caramel bits, etc.)
  • A Customized T-Shirt // Mix together Rit Dye and water, and set aside. Using a bleach pen, write a message or draw a picture on a t-shirt. Once dry, place the shirt in the dye for a few minutes. Make sure you wash the shirt so extra dye doesn't rub off on things! (Note: placing a piece of cardboard between the t-shirt layers as you write/draw on it will help a great deal!)

    1. Thanks, Veronica! My siblings and I try to keep our Christmas gifts pretty cheap and I'm always running out of ideas! Here's to hoping I can milk this list for all it's worth over the next few years. :)
